Curriculum: Nutritional Medicine
When the need for treatment arises, a patient’s nutritional habits are assessed during the course of a highly personal, patient-centered consultation. But not for the purpose of simply prescribing one of the many current diet fads. Instead, we discuss and recommend eating and drinking behaviors personally adapted to the special needs of the individual and his or her respective circumstances.
Our priorities are focused on providing an understanding of wise nutritional choices, the functions that nutrients have in the body, tips on smart shopping and – particularly important for practical incorporation into daily life – useful skills and advice on cooking and preparing meals. Depending on the patient’s specific state of health, the possibility and advisability of physical activities are also entertained.
Among the nutritional therapies offered are weight reduction programs for adults and youth and medical dietary counseling for patients with clinical diagnoses including diabetes, intestinal disorders such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, obstipation, diarrhea and fecal incontinence as well as patients with various food intolerances. Steps and methods are discussed during personal patient consultation on how to remedy nutritional problems or disorders. Making targeted changes in one’s everyday life can lead to a lasting change for the bett
